Avram Grant appointed New Coach of Black Stars of Ghana
Former Israeli and Chelsea manager, Avram Grant has been named the new coach of Ghana after signing a 27-month contract with the Ghanaian football association on Thursday.
The 54-year-old Israeli is set to replace Kwesi Appiah who led the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but was fired in September.
Grant, who was Director of Football at Chelsea in 2007 replaced him as Manager after the termination of his appointment in 2008. He lost the Champions League final with Chelsea after a penalty shootout defeat in the final against Manchester United. His duty now is to lead Ghana to January’s African Nations Cup finals.
Ghana FA’s president, Kwesi Nyantakyi said he has set the Israeli a target of “doing well” at the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea and aim to win the 2017 edition.
“Grant needs time to know the players very well so we can’t ask him to win the Nations Cup. That would be unrealistic,” he said.
