Attempted Murder: Osun LP Senatorial Candidate Petitions Aregbesola
Following her narrow escape in the hands of alleged political thugs, lawyer to the Labour Party candidate in the last senatorial election in Osun State, Mrs. Romoke Edu-Ogunlana, Barr. Alfred Adegoke has petitioned governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The Osun West LP senatorial candidate, it would be recalled, was almost killed during the March 28, 2015 presidential and national assembly election. She was however not totally lucky as she sustained deep matchete cut on her left arm while her new hilux van was burnt to ashes.
According to Barr. Adegoke, Mrs. Edu-Ogunlana was, on that fateful day, at St. Johns Primary School Ikire Field to see how her agents were doing at the collation centre. “She greeted all and sundry and took a seat but to her suspicion, Mr. Obe (Agent of PDP) made a call saying “o ti de o” meaning that the person is here. Within a few minutes, the whole place was swamped with many thugs, hoodlums and tough looking men who were marauding about our client before the police swamped on the area and apprehended about four of them. This was about 11am.”
He continued: “Our client quickly left the place and was driven off by her driver heading to her father’s house, Edu’s Compound, Ikire but on getting to the Holy Cross Junction, Ikire some of the hoodlums overtook and attacked our client’s vehicle cutting the vehicle severally with the machetes they were wielding, breaking the windscreens and side windows. Our client was shouting her identity that she is Romoke Edu Ogunlana, the Labour Party Senatorial candidate, thinking at that time it was a mistaken identity but to her astonishment and utter discomfiture, her assailants continued the attack inflicting a grievous wound on her right arm.
“Our Client’s driver, Mr. Wale Oludiran was able to maneuver the vehicle and escape to her father’s house at Edu’s Compound, Sango Junction, Ikire. However at the front of the house, she was again waylaid by the hoodlums and our client had to abandon the vehicle and run inside the house. The women and people in the community were telling them that “Okoo Romoke ni” (meaning it is Romoke’s(our client’s) Vehicle) but the assailants continued with the attack saying that “Romoke naa lanwa, Colonel lo ran wa si, on lo ba iboo PDP Je” (translated to mean it is Romoke(our client) they are looking for, that it is Colonel that sent them and that She is the one that spoil P.D.P votes).
“Our client managed to hide herself inside the house which was besieged by the hoodlums for about 2 hours before soldiers came to rescue her and took her to the police station.
Adegoke alleged that he was ”of the unshakable believe that the attack on her life and properties was perpetuated by agents of the P.D.P under the auspices of Col. Olayiwola Falabi and Mr. Obe. Our client could identify one person by alias of Smart who is working for the said Col. Olayiwola Falabi. Our client could also hear the people calling the names of Biodun Ajayi and Tunde Ogunleye. Also there is a person called P.A. to Col. Falabi.”
He, therefore, urged Mr. Rauf Aregbesola to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book and “ensure the rehabitation of our client who has suffered damages beyond monetary compensation. In the mayhem, our client lost the brand new 2014 model, Toyota Hillux Jeep, automatic transmission with red seats valued over N9 million.(completely burnt). Our client was hospitalized and undergone medical treatment for the grievous wound and for the trauma. This is apart from the fact that she has to carry the physical and physiological scar for life which cannot be accounted for in terms of money alone.
