Athletico Madrid, Barcelona through to Semi-Final of Copa Del Rey as Napoli advance to Coppa Italia Semi-Final
Club Atlético de Madrid will play capital rivals Real Madrid CF in the semi-finals of the Cop Del Rey after wrapping up a 3-1 aggregate success against Athletic Club on Wednesday.
Diego Simeone’s side’s 1-0 first-leg advantage was wiped out by Aritz Aduriz’s effort just before the break, but second-half goals from Raúl García and Diego Costa ensured Atlético made it through to the last four.
FC Barcelona also made it through in emphatic fashion, completing a 9-2 overall success against Levante UD with a rousing home win. With 4-1 win already from the first leg, the Blaugrana triumphed 5-1 at Camp Nou, with Adriano, Carles Puyol – his first goal in more than a year – Alexis Sánchez and Cesc Fàbregas on the mark for Gerardo Martino’s team.
In the Coppa Italia, Gonzalo Higuaín scored the only goal for SSC Napoli in the eighth minute, helping his team beat Coppa Italia holders SS Lazio 1-0 to set up a semi-final meeting with AS Roma.
