ASUU Strike: Nigerians should ignore Maku’s careless talk —ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has urged Nigerians to ignore the careless utterance by the Minister of Information Labaran Maku that the country will shut down if ASUU’s demand is met. This was contained in a statement credited to the Zonal Coordinator of Calabar Zone Dr. Charles Ononuju. ASUU described the statement as irresponsible and careless.ASUU

 

It will be recalled that ASUU embarked on the current strike  action early July, following the inability of the government to implement the 2009 agreement reached by both parties. Several meetings has been held by both parties in the last eight weeks with no positive result.

“The minister should apologise to Nigerians for such unguarded comments and stop playing politics with the future of Nigerian child,” ASUU warned and called the attention of the minister to the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement.

Dr. Charles Ononuju further said “The country has not shut down with constant government wastages and billions of dollars being stolen. The Minister, Labaran Maku had stated that Nigeria may shut down if the Federal Government accepts the demands of the striking lecturers as so much may leave government coffers.
