Arsenal delivered a stunning demonstration by overwhelming league champions Manchester City 3-0 to win the FA Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.

Boosted by last season’s FA Cup success over Hull City, Arsene Wenger’s side took charge with first-half goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey before substitute, Olivier Giroud added a third.

New signing, Alexis Sanchez also impressed, giving Arsenal fans hope that Arsenal are in superb form ahead of their opening league fixture at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini saw his side rue the absence of players such as captain, Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero. They also portrayed some rustiness which will be a cause for concern ahead of their season opener at Newcastle United.

Cazorla gave Arsenal the lead in just the 21st minute when Jack Wilshere was fouled on the edge of the box by Dedryck Boyata, play continued and the ball ran to the Spaniard, who threw Clichy off-balance with a clever feint before drilling home left-footed.

Moments later it was 2-0. Sanchez swept a ball through to Yaya Sanogo, who played a pass inside which was slightly behind Ramsey, but the Welshman cut his run and drilled a shot into the bottom-left corner.

Giroud settled the win on the hour, launching a superb strike from 25 yards that plunged beneath the crossbar.

Both teams will meet in the Premier League on 19 September.
