Aregbesola Was One Of Those Behind My Election As Speaker – Tambuwal
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, has revealed that the support of opposition leaders in the country, including the Governor Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, contributed to his emergence as Speaker of the House.
Tambuwa, contended that those outside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also played prominent roles in his emergence.
Speaking as a special guest of honour at a workshop organised by the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyor (NIQS) in Osogbo recently, the Speaker recalled that the governor joined forces with other prominent politicians in the country to support his aspiration to lead the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
According to him, “I would not have been the Speaker of the House of Representatives today if not for the support of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, my political leader.”
Tambuwal, who repeatedly referred to Aregbesola as his political leader, urged the people of the state to support the governor in his resolution to transform the state.
Earlier in his speech, Aregbesola had refuted the allegation of Islamising the state levelled against him by the opposition parties, saying that “as an individual, I don’t engage in religious discussion let alone religious argument.”
The governor also contended that “as a committed Muslim I don’t see anything wrong or criminal in being a Muslim. There is nothing bad in being committed to one’s religion and spreading it.”
He noted that “less than 10 per cent of students population in AUD Elementary School, which is founded by an Islamic society, use hijab to school contrary to the allegation making the rounds in some quarters that the use of hijab has been legalised in all schools in the state.”
