Aregbesola says Reforms in Osun not Religious but Democratization of Education
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has stated that the reforms his administration is carrying out do not have religious inclination but democratization of education. In a statement by Semiu Okanlawon, the Director of Communication to the 
Governor, he said the kind of face lift given to education by the administration of Aregbesola is comparable to anywhere in the World.
“The Baptist Elementary Central School to be commissioned in Ilare, Ile Ife is a testimony to the determination of the current administration to provide education quality comparable with the best standards in any part of the world”, the statement noted.
Describing as unfortunate and uncalled for, the attempt by those it called naysayers to drape the ongoing massive education reforms in religious garbs, Okanlawon said the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is so clear-headed in its formulation of policies and their implementations that mere name calling and dubious manipulation of the citizens’ minds with religious and other sentiments cannot halt the process.
“The Aregbesola administration has a clear focus of where it is going on the issue of education just as in every sector. The target is to give our children education quality that you can get in any other part of the world that makes their citizen a total man who is useful in all ramifications to the society.
“We have no doubt that our children are gifted naturally. But with the depressing learning environment we inherited, no useful results can be expected.
“The Baptist Central Elementary School Ilare is one of about 40 such schools that are ready to be put to use. They have been thematically designed to create sound minds in sound bodies. The state-of-the-art facility, which can accommodate about 1,000 pupils, has 28 classrooms, hall, sickbay, staff room, and a grassed courtyard.
“Recreational facilities at the open recreational space, Astro Turf are provided to make learning inviting to the children of that age in the elementary school. The new school will accommodate Grades 1-4 pupils who also enjoy the nutritious free lunches – tagged – O meals provided by the state government. The statement said the school to be commissioned on Tuesday, in its previous, rotten form, had 162 pupils with a pit latrine”.
The statement noted that about 1000 pupils are to be educated under this new ultra-modern facility that provides comfort and impetus to learning.
Okanlawon said the emergence of the new schools in Osun called for celebrations by the citizens noting that the buildings and the facilities in them have demonstrated that the Aregbesola administration does not encourage discrimination among children of the rich and the indigent.
“Just as the children of the rich, the children of the indigent must have access to quality education. This is why Osun is investing heavily on these kinds of facilities; providing Opon Imo; befitting uniforms and providing a generally level-playing field on access to education.
“This is why Osun people must tell those draping the current reforms in religious garbs not to hoodwink them. It is nothing but an attempt to discredit a policy that seeks to democratize education and make the children of the rich and the indigent compete favourably”, the statement concluded.
