Osun State commissioner for environment and sanitation, Professor Olubukola Oyawole, Thursday defended the state government’s environmental sanitation programme, saying that it has banished poverty and disease from the state.

The Commissioner, while peaking on “Clean and Sustainable Environment: Panacea for Outbreak of Epidemics, the State of Osun Experience” at the Correspondents’ Chapel Monthly Guest Forum in Ibadan, disclosed that the governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, had also banished unemployment, restored healthy living, functional education and communal peace and progress.

She said considering the proactive programmes of the governor, outbreak of epidemics had become a thing of the past in the state, saying healthy environment connotes healthy living.

The commissioner recalled that before the advent of the administration, there had been outbreaks of epidemics, flooding, diseases and hunger.

Prof. Oyawole debunked claims that the state government had borrowed N400billion to finance its projects, explaining that government had been sustaining the projects on project finance ideas, internally generated revenue and assistance from people and international organisations like United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
