Appoint indigenes to key positions, group tells Ogun
The Ogun Collectives Group has appealed to the Governor of Ogun State, Mr Dapo Abiodun, to consider indigenes of the state for key appointments.
Secretary General of the group, Mr Adekunle Odutade, in a press release signed by OCG, kicked against the continuous appointment of non-indigenes to key positions by the Governor of Ogun State, Mr Dapo Abiodun.The group, however, called on Abiodun to stop depriving Ogun indigenes of their rights.The group explained that the recent appointments of non-indigenes to key positions were counter productive to the growth and development of Ogun State.
Giving instances of such abberations, the statement cited the nomination of Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, a Professor from Ekiti State as the new Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, adding that there were better qualified indigenes of Ogun State for the position.It read, “The group also wondered why the governor appointed Mr Babatunde Aregbesola from Ondo State as the Accountant-General of Ogun State when there are several better candidates with superior qualifications from Ogun State.
“The imposition of Senator Solomon Yayi, a native of Ondo State as APC Senatorial candidate for Ogun West after spending several years in the National Assembly from Lagos State was also frowned upon.”The Group affirmed that the VC nominee had the backing of the outgoing VC, the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner for Education. The group is of the view that the outgoing VC, Prof. Ganiyu Olatunde who is from Osun State is running from pillar to post to impose a new VC who is from Ekiti State over a 40-year-old state university.
Thus, the process was stage managed/rigged right from the advert.”The OCG appealed to the Ogun State Governor to look critically into these appointments with a view to reviewing them in favour of the citizens of Ogun State, which the Governor swore to protect. “A meeting by members of the group and other critical stakeholders has been scheduled for October 21, 2022 to sensitise the people of Ogun State and map out strategies for the way forward,” it read.
