Appeal Court Sacks Kogi Minority Leader
An Appeal Court sitting in Abuja this morning sacked the Minority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Solomon Afolabi Oluyori representing Ijumu state constituency.
The judge of the court, Justice Aminu Sanusi upturned an earlier judgement delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State.
One Yakubu Kayode had dragged Solomon Oluyori to court claiming that, he (Kayode) was wrongly substituted for Oluyori by his party, the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, which merged with other parties to form the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Justice Sanusi ruled that the Kayode’s appeal had merit based on the available facts before it. The presiding judge therefore set aside the earlier verdict delivered on September 30, 2011, declaring that the appellant was the rightful candidate of his party in the April, 2011 House of Assembly election for Ijumu Constituency.
He then declared that the removal of Kayode by his party, ANPP, was “null and void”.
