APC wins all seats in Kano Council polls

All Progressives Congress, APC, has won all the chairmanship and Councillor seats in Kano state.
This is contained in a statement signed by Chairman of Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, KANSIEC, Sani Malumfashi, on Sunday in Kano.
The statement reads: “The election has been largely successful and peaceful and APC won all the 44 local government chairmanship and the 484 Councillor posts in the state as officially declared by returning officers at the various levels.”
According to the statement, Nineteen parties contested the election although only the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party contested all positions.
Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor and chieftain of PDP in the state, on Sunday while addressing newsmen in Kano after the election results have been announced rejected the results on behalf of PDP.
The former governor said the state electoral body failed to conduct a free and fair poll.
According to him, his party had evidence of electoral malpractices during the exercise.
He said the PDP would go to the court to defend the principles of democracy as enshrined in the constitution.
Alh. Shekarau, however, urged residents and party loyalists not to engage in any act that may breach the peace, adding that “the constitution will be used to correct all the flaws “.
However, the state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, said the election was peaceful.
The governor said all the reports he received showed that the election has been very peaceful.
“We have few cases that are not the best in some of the wards, but I believe on the whole we can congratulate ourselves.
“We are very happy that the election is taking place. The last time we had Local Government Election in Kano was in 2007, seven years now, we are conducting another, and I believe this will enhance and strengthening our democracy,” he said.
