APC rally: Court remands 2 for possession of weapons

An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court, on Friday remanded two men in an Ilesa Prison, for allegedly being in possession of dangerous weapons at an APC rally in Ila Local Government Area, Osun.
Magistrate Olusola Aluko, who gave the order, said the accused should be kept behind bars, because of the gravity of the offence committed.
The two accused persons, Adeyemi Sikiru, 26, and Ajao Tunde, 26, are facing a three -count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of public peace.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Isiaka Ajadi, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on 10 June, at the scene of the All Progressive Congress Campaign rally.
“The accused armed themselves with dangerous weapons in order to cause mayhem and also disrupt the APC rally.
“The accused carried three cutlasses, one knife, and three axes, with assorted charms.”
The prosecutor submitted that the offence committed contravened sections 516, 80,508, and 417 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against them and their counsels Mrs Nnena Ugwu and Mr Kola Oluwa Ogunwale, prayed the court to grant them bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, however, overruled the bail application and ordered that a formal bail application be filed on the next date of adjournment.
The case was adjourned until 27 July for mention.
