APC Governors Want Consensus Presidential Candidate
Governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have supported the choice of a consensus candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Chief Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Imo state, disclosed this in Ilorin, Kwara State, saying although the party had not adopted any candidate for the elections, the governors decided to adopt a consensus candidate in order to avoid imposition of candidates.
He also said that if the adoption of a consensus candidate isn’t successful, credible and transparent primaries will be used to elect candidates.
“On consensus, our forum is in full support of consensus as one of the ways to produce our presidential candidate or any candidate in the party for as long as it is done with regards for internal democracy. There will be no imposition of candidate in our party.
He continued: “Our Forum has not adopted any candidate neither has the Governors’ Forum adopted any candidate but we shall encourage consensus and dialogue within the leadership of the party and aspirants to see how we come up with a candidate. But where that is not possible, like true progressives, we shall have a free and fair primaries from the APC.”
