APC Denies Tension in Osun state Over Impostion of Candidates
The Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has been reportedly heated up over alleged imposition of Senatorial candidates by the Governor, Rauf Aregbesola.
According to reports, the governor allegedly rejected the results of some areas as his favoured candidates did not win because they lacked the support of the people.
The results declared the incumbent Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Prof. Sola Adeyeye, winner in his district while former governor of the state, Isiaka Adeleke, won in Osun West Senatorial District by defeating Senator Husain Mustapha. Alhaji Sola Lawal, who is the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ogun State, defeated Senator Jide Omoworare in Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District.
Lawal was said to have polled 17 votes against three votes by Omoworare but his victory was said to have been rejected by the governor, who was said to have preferred the serving Senator.
Reports say that Lawal’s supporters were mobilising to resist the alleged planned imposition immediately they heard that the governor met with some party leaders at the end of the primaries. The alleged plan to deny Lawal of victory is said to be causing temper to rise in Ile Ife, which is the base of the two APC leaders.
The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the party, Kunle Oyatomi, however reacted to the allegation, saying: “All this remain in the realm of speculation. Some people went to town with some names claiming that they had emerged winners of the primaries. There is no official result yet; I am not aware of any result of any senatorial districts and I am in the position to tell you.
“As I am talking to you, the leaders of the part are meeting, they are meeting now; so, don’t let some people use you to cause confusion. We will let the public know who emerged when the time comes”.
