APC convention: Zoning of party offices intentional, says Gbajabiamila
A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gabjabiamila, in Abuja on Friday said that the zoning system adopted by the party, was intentional as it was not entrenched in the party’s constitution.
Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos), the House’s minority leader told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the zoning system adopted by the party was an agreement to carry every member along.
“The zoning system is not in our party constitution, that decision was intentional to carry the different groups in the party along,“he said.
The minority leader said that the party would, however, not sacrifice merit on the altar of zoning if it was found that a member merited a particular position in the party.
He said that the convention would produce an executive that would pilot the affairs of the new party, which he described as a “movement” that belongs to all Nigerians.
On crises in some states chapters of the party he said that they would be resolved amicably.
Also in an interview, Sen. Bola Saraki (APC-Kwara) said that the party did not in any way adopt the zoning system as it was not approved by National Executive Committee of the party.
“For the party to adopt it must go to the NEC for approval,“he said.
He explained said that what it did was the outcome of an informal arrangement among the various groups in the party.
Also speaking, Sen. Chris Ngige (APC-Anambra) said that the zoning arrangement was the outcome of the dialogue between members of the party from the different geo-political zones.
It would be recalled that the APC at meeting its caucus ofprior to the convention agreed to zone some offices to the six geo-political zones.
