APC Advises FG to Seek International Help in Fight against Boko Haram instead of Ceasefire Agreement
Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the All Progressives Congress APC, on Thursday urged the Federal Government to put more efforts into the battle against the Boko Haram sect by setting up an impartial international commission of enquiry which will help reveal sponsors of terrorism in the country.
The party’s national chairman, John Oyegun, said during a news conference in Abuja that the government didn’t need a ceasefire with the terrorists as it would only make the people in the North-Eastern region more vulnerable.
Oyegun also noted the government’s methods towards curbing the violence was failing as suicide bombings and terrorist attacks were on the increase and spreading to new states.
It would be recalled that just less than two days after the Nigerian government announced on October 17 that it had reached a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram sect, members of sect attacked two villages in Borno State.
The leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, also released a video a few days later, denying the ceasefire agreement.
