Angola Football Federation appoints Romeu Filemon Coach of Senior National Team
The Angola Football Federation (FAF) has named the former coach of the Angola U-20 team Romeu Filemon as new head coach of the senior national team for a two-year term.
The 49-year old will replace Uruguayan Gustavo Ferrin, who was fired following the failure of the Palancas Negras to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The new coach will be entitled to a monthly salary of 3 million Kwanza (about 30,000 US dollars), and his major priority is to guide Angola to next year’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
“There is much work ahead, but we will seek to select the best players with proven experience to build a strong team”, Filemon told the press at his unveiling last Thursday in Luanda.
Filemon will be assisted by Jose Kilamba and Andre Makanga, Paxe Filho – Phyiscal trainer, John ‘Dodo’ Dombassi – goalkeepers’ trainer and Adriano Jonas – technical supervisor. His first game will be a friendly against Mozambique on 5 March.
