Amosun’s deceits, lies & half truths that killed Ogun west 2019 agenda
Omooba ‘Damilare Oloyede
The quest for who governs Ogun state for another four years was put to rest on Monday, 11th of March when INEC’s Returning Officer for Ogun state governorship election and Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka declared Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR of the All Progressive Congress, APC the governor-elect in Ogun state.
It is no news that for 43 years that Ogun state has been created, only a senatorial district has been serially denied the privileged opportunity of governing the state, and that district is Ogun west; comprising of the Yewas and Aworis. Beams of light were seen at the tail of the tunnel, not until the selfish acts, lies, deceits and half truths of an emperor deemed it all.
Image launderers, PR personnel and paid journalists have all been deployed by the emperor who wants to suddenly shift blame of costing us the coveted seat. For those unaware, the emperor is outgoing Ogun state governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
I have at my exclusive disposal 5 lies, call it half truths and deceitful steps Amosun took that killed Ogun west agenda in 2019.
One, Mr. Amosun instead of allowing our people via our leaders & elders choose through a credible, transparent and fair process, Mr. Ibikunle Amosun assumed the status of a supreme political warlord railroaded our leaders, he even treated them like his errand boys all to achieve his stage managed ploy of foisting on Ogun state, a man who has questionable identity claims, a man who is not loved in Ogun west and a man who has credibility issues – as there are questions out there that why was Triple A, as Akinlade is widely called fired as Amosun’s SSA(Taxation & IGR)? At the end, after Ogun west elders had reduced about 11 governorship aspirants to just 3(excluding Triple A), Mr. Emperor as Amosun was widely called instructed in strong terms, that his interest is with the London returnee Triple A, and he ordered the Chief M. A Olagbaye led Ogun West Elders’ Council to go to late Deacon Adeyemi’s house to announce the name of the Ipokia born member of the House of Representatives, Triple A.
Secondly, this is egoistic and sheer self-deceit, as one marvels how Gov. Amosun boasts about since 2017/2018, how he has the governorship ticket of the party, APC in his pocket and how his then unnamed anointed candidate, who was popularly dubbed Whizkid(apologies to Amosun himself). It was gathered that Amosun even gloats about saying his anointed candidate, Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade has even won the election that the second term will be the issue. God can’t be mocked, at least He remains the omnipotent being, and this Almighty has proved to Amosun.
Thirdly, the people of Ogun west and close allies of Gov. Amosun should ask the Governor, what suddenly changed the choice of Amosun from Chief Tolu Odebiyi(now Senator-elect) to Triple A. Those in the know say at a meeting in 2016, Amosun had presented Chief Tolu Odebiyi, who was then his Chief of Staff as his preferred successor. Rumour even had it that Odebiyi was brought onboard as CoS so he can understand running of the government. Amosun swiftly changed from Odebiyi to Akinlade just because he knew Odebiyi belongs to the political elite family, he is a son of 2nd Republic Senator, Late Jonathan Odebiyi who was a close ally of Obafemi Awolowo.
On number 4, when the Ijebu Remo agenda in connivance with Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu successfully defeated Amosun and his anointed candidate, Akinlade at the October APC gubernatorial primaries, with Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, GNI already a candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, no sane Ogun west son or daughter ever imagined Triple A would be allowed to join another party. Despite pleas from traditional rulers, top community elders, political leaders and pressure groups all enjoined, implored and begged Gov. Amosun not to push Triple A to join another party. This is because not a few institutions already pledged loyalty and allegiance to GNI and his party, ADC from Ogun west, even the Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle already endorsed and pronounced Isiaka as the senatorial district’s consensus candidate. In all these, Gov. Amosun turned deaf ears and instructed Triple A and his supporters to join the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, at this point the Triple A project became obvious to all and sundry that it seems to be a third term agenda of Gov. Amosun in disguise.
Lastly and very significant in Amosun’s lies is that immediately after the first election, with the abysmal performances of the APM and ADC in the National Assembly polls that left the APC winning the senatorial seat of the district, It became evident that the APM and ADC need to work together for the sake of bloc votes if truly an Ogun west man wants to be Governor. To show his theatrics of deceits, Amosun about 5 days to the gubernatorial elections put a call across to GNI, to have him in talks. But, before the talks would materialise, the social media was already agog that billions of Naira had exchanged hands between GNI and Amosun. Expectedly, Isiaka was angrily dazed, hence he communicated his displeasure to Amosun, and reminded the governor of how he has sort means of working together with him, more than a year ago. At this juncture, GNI had at his disposal information that Gov. Amosun had told a PDP House of Representatives member who lost out at the PDP primaries that “GNI had agreed to step down for Triple A”. Like you and I, GNI was livid, hence he shut further communication with Amosun & his APM and he went to the polls.
Good people of Ogun west, our acussing fingers should be towards the right direction, so that we are not eternally jinxed.
