Amosun is a sectional governor – Osoba
Former governor of Ogun State and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olusegun Osoba, yesterday, opened up on Governor Ibikunle Amosun, describing him as a “sectional governor.”
Osoba also described Governor Amosun as a stooge of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, saying most supporters of Amosun were loyalists of the former president.
The former governor, who spoke at a meeting with a cross-section of traditional chiefs, Baales and Olorituns in Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state, accused Amosun of concentrating his projects in Abeokuta, the state capital, and its environs, to the detriment of other parts of the state.
Osoba spoke shortly after Senator Adegbenga Kaka, representing Ogun East inaugurated some projects, including a staff room at Ago Iwoye Secondary School and a hall at Itamerin Comprehensive High School.
Kaka, who named one of the projects after Osoba explained that the gesture, was in recognition of the former governor’s contributions to the state.
The lawmaker appealed to the people to vote for the SDP in the February general elections, adding that it remained the only true progressive party.
Osoba, in his remarks, argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state had failed to deliver the dividends of democracy and urged the people to vote out the party.
He deplored the state government’s claim that no fewer than 50,000 youths had been employed in the last three and a half years, accusing Amosun of abandoning the Ago-Iwoye bridge initiated by his (Osoba) administration and constructing bridges at Sapon, Itoku and Iyana Mortuary in Abeokuta. Osoba also decried the, “injustice” allegedly meted out to the Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun, by the governor.
He described the alleged shabby treatment of the deputy governor as a slap on the face of the people of Ijebuland, who Adesegun represented.
“We gave Adesegun as Amosun’s deputy because of his experience as commissioner for works. We had expected that the governor would tap from Adesegun’s wealth of experience in governance but the governor chose otherwise and started constructing bridges where there is no water.
“Amosun really dealt with Adesegun; he maltreated him. Ijebu people should not see the insult meted out to Adesegun as that of Adesegun alone.
“They should see it as a collective insult. Therefore, it is time for Ijebu people to fight back with their votes. I’m begging you to stop the maltreatment of the Ijebus with your votes.”
“It is time to defend yourselves. This is not 1999 election when you voted for your kinsman, (Jubril) Martins-Kuye, against me. You must show Amosun with your votes come February 28, 2015, all of you must come out en masse and pay Amosun back,” Osoba said.
He alleged that the state government planned to mop up Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the elections, warning the voters to beware and resist any form of inducement.
