Alleged Security Breach: PDP Slams ACN Governors over Aregbesola’s Indictment
The South-West leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday criticized the defence of ACN Governors of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola’s security indictment; describing it as “irresponsible and hypocritical”. In a statement by its zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade, the PDP criticized the ACN Governors for rallying behind Aregbesola who had been indicted by security reports and advised that “the best any lover of Aregbesola should do is to advise him to thread the path of honour by putting a stop to his illegalities and religious extremism in Osun State.”
The PDP contended Nigerians should shun hypocrisy on issues that border on security and challenged ACN governors to advise Aregbesola to put a stop to “flagrant affront on the constitution and unity of Nigeria, instead of blabbing about an imaginary destabilization plot by the PDP”. According to the Babade, “the ACN governors should rather tell Nigerians why it was only Aregbesola that is using Islamic extremists as guards instead of men of the police and SSS? The PDP also demanded to know “why other ACN governors like Abiola Ajimobi, Babatunde Fashola and Ibikunle Amosun that are Muslims like Aregbesola not promoting fundamentalism in their own states?” The PDP wondered “why are the ACN governors not introducing the use of hijab in public schools in their states as done by Aregbesola?” Why didn’t the ACN governors change the name of their own states as done by Aregbesola?
“Again, why did they reject the idea of having a Sharia Court of Appeal in the South-West when Aregbesola mooted it during one of their meetings late last year?”
The PDP also picked holes in the explanation by Aregbesola that states in the United States of America like Florida are addressed as State of Florida. Insisting “Nigeria is different from the United States of America”, the PDP wondered if Aregbesola’s motive was to run Osun state as “a semi-autonomous republic without collecting allocation from the federation account”.
The PDP argued that the indictment of Aregbesola by security report was beyond politics; insisting that the issue touches on the existence of Nigeria as an indivisible entity and that Aregbesola’s antics portends dangerous manifestation of Islamic fundamentalism in Osun State. The PDP alerted nation to this danger and implored that Nigerians to “prevail on Aregbesola to stop his islamic extremism now before it becomes too late again.”
