Alison-Madueke Elected as OPEC President
Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been elected to succeed former President of OPEC, Libyan Vice-Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, as the president of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.
Alison-Madueke, who was formerly the alternate president of OPEC, will be the Organisation’s first female president, was voted in as President of OPEC Thursday at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria.
She will immediately begin serving her one-year term as the official in charge of OPEC affairs as the organisation tries to stabilise world oil supply and demand.
