Akwa Ibom Tribunal orders Investigation into Gov Akpabio’s Senatorial Election
The Akwa Ibom Election Petitions Tribunal, on Friday, ordered the inspection of 450,000 ballot papers used in the election of Gov. Godswill Akpabio as Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North West District.
Akpabio was declared winner of the Election over the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Senatorial District, Chief Inibehe Okorie, who then filed the petition at the Tribunal seeking nullification of the election due to alleged irregularities.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, has now ruled that the polling documents used in the election should be inspected within 10 days from May 8, in the presence of the respondent or his agents and the security agents, as part of investigations by the tribunal.
