Akwa Ibom PDP Gubernatorial Aspirants Accuse Akpabio of Interference in Party Primaries; Threaten to Leave Party

Twenty-two gubernatorial aspirants of the Akwa Ibom chapter of the People’s Democratic Party on Thursday accused the state Governor, Godswill Akpabio, of bribing 1,200 delegates with N1 million each during the governorship primaries in the state and therefore threatened to leave the party if the national leadership did not interfere.

Asides the 22 aspirants, all senators representing Akwa Ibom State, six members of the House of Representatives in National Assembly and 14 members of the state House of Assembly have also threatened to join the opposition if the national leadership of the PDP fails to address their petitions before January 11.

Speaking about the development, the past Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nsima Ekere, also accused Akpabio of flaunting democratic principles and trying to dominate party members by selecting three senators, 10 members of the House of Representatives and 22 members of the House of Assembly for the next elections.

He said the members of the party are waiting for the national leadership of the party to address their petitions before they make a final decision.
