Akwa Ibom LP expels Former Executives; Announces Plans to Challenge Gubernatorial Election Results
The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Labour Party has announced the suspension of 11 of its members and expulsion of five of its former state executives members.
The party’s state chairman, Prof. Ekeng Anam-Ndu; state secretary, Elder Utip Etiebet, and National Deputy Chairman, Mr. Calistus Okafor, released a joint statement in Uyo, saying that the members were suspended and expelled due to involvement in anti-party activities and display of unwarranted impunity.
The party, further disowned the individuals, warning members of the general public to avoid dealing with them, especially in matters relating to Labour Party.
The party also disclosed that it has commenced plans to challenge the outcome of the April 11 elections at the tribunal.
The statement by Okafor said: “I am empowered by the National Executive Council of our great party, the Labour Party, to endorse the suspension of recalcitrant members and expulsion of the former executive members, who are bent on tarnishing the image of the party. We cannot allow such impunity to happen.
“The decision to suspend and expel some of our erring members is to bring sanity to the party.
“The state executive of the party has been empowered to institute a caretaker committee in each of the affected local government areas.”
