The Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Tribunal in Abuja has struck out a petition by the candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Helen Esuene, seeking to nullify the election of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel on grounds that the petition was incompetent.

Presiding Judge, Hon Justice A. S. Umar made the ruling after the Counsel to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Paul Usoro, challenged the competence of the opposition’s petition, stating that one of the exhibits, a supposed certified true copy of the signature page of the petition, is not a CTC having failed to satisfy the requirements of Section 104 and 105 of the Evidence Act.

He also contended that the failure of the petitioner to comply with the provisions of paragraph 4(3) of the First Schedule of the Electoral Act.
