Akala To Be Be Sanctioned For His Roles In The Violent Convention of South West PDP
The last may not have been heard on the crisis that almost marred the Southwest Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Sources told NigerianEcho that the Presidency is mounting pressure on the National Secretariat of the party to take disciplinary actions against the actors of the ugly incident. Former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao – Akala and his erstwhile Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Senator Hosea Agboola almost exchanged blows at the convention ground.
Agboola was reportedly pushed from behind by Akala as the former was about casting his vote. Akala snatched the ballot paper and squeezed it. Agboola, who is the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, has been having running battles against his former boss. The animosity dated back to 2011 when both were seeking for votes. Akala who was seeking reelection lost to the incumbent, Senator Abiola Ajimobi while Agboola won a seat at the red chambers of the National Assembly.
Akala blamed Agboola, Senator Teslim Folarin and other leaders of the party in the state for his loss and this has created a big trust issue among them. The tension is being heightened by the desire of both Akala and Folarin to seek the nomination of their party to contest for the Governor in 2015. Agboola and other leaders are rooting for Folarin, a move supported by the Presidency.
Akala is seen by party faithfuls as a violent individual who is keen to propagate violence before, during and after the primaries. He is reportedly not favoured by President Goodluck Jonathan who still holds him responsible for the loss of the party in 2011.
Another reason the presidency is not disposed to Akala’s candidature is the need to pacify Ibadan people. The believe within the caucuses of PDP is that it’s only an Ibadan man that can defeat the incumbent who is also from Ibadan. Akala is from Ogbomoso,
