Ajimobi Orders Low-Key Second Term Inauguration
The Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has directed that the May 29 inauguration in the state should be low key.
In this respect, the governor ordered all his aides in charge of the inauguration ceremony to ensure that they organized the ceremony devoid of fanfare to herald his historic second term in office, in view of the pervading parlous economy of the country.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, conveyed the governor’s decision through a press statement, on Sunday.
Given the paucity of fund across the country, from which Oyo State is not exempted, the governor stressed the need for modest celebrations as he continues in office for another four years this Friday.
The statement reads, “In view of this, the governor has ordered an austere inauguration ceremony, bereft of the traditional fanfare synonymous with such occasion. Only light refreshments will be served at the occasion.
“All activities for the second term inauguration will start and end at the Adamasingba Stadium on May 29. By implication, an inter-faith thanksgiving service will be held at the stadium, alongside the swearing-in ceremony the same day.
“There will also not be any post-inauguration luncheon at a separate venue. This is the governor’s way of being sensitive to the state of the nation, which calls for a sober reflection and adoption of belt-tightening measures.”
The governor used this opportunity to thank the people of the state, All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful and the state’s workforce for their unflinching support for the administration, with a firm promise to intensify people-oriented programmes in his second term.
