Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has mourned the death of the Director of Legal Services of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Wale Diya, an incident he described as the exit of a shining star within the fold of the progressives.

The governor commiserated with the party, the deceased immediate and extended families, friends and professional colleagues in a statement by his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, on Wednesday.

Diya died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Thursday during a brief illness. He was aged 48.

Ajimobi said, “I received the news of the death of the young man with shock and disbelief. We have been praying for his recovery since he was hospitalized, but God knows the best and we have to succumb to His will.

“Diya was a shining star within the fold of the progressives. He will be sorely missed. He was a brilliant lawyer and dedicated party member who was always ready to sacrifice his comfort in defending the cause of the party.

“I’m saddened by this loss and I want to pray for the repose of his soul. He was snatched by the cold hands of death in his prime. May the Almighty grant his family the strength to bear this unfortunate incident.”

Ajimobi acknowledged the late legal practitioner’s immense contributions to the APC’s unprecedented victory in last year’s general elections and the attendant string of victories of the party’s elected representatives at the election petition tribunals.
