Adamu Muazu, Ex -Bauchi State Governor Emerges PDP Chairman
Former Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, has emerged as the new Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The immediate past Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur resigned last week after a protracted crisis in the ruling party. PDP has been in crisis leading to five Governors, who were elected on its platform defecting to the newly formed All Progressives Congress, APC. The governors: Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers ; Abdufattah Ahmed, Kwara ; Aliyu Wammako, Sokoto ; Rabiu Kwankwanso, Kano and Murtala Nyako, Adamawa left the party due to irreconcilable differences.
The party chieftains had tried all they could to resolve the crisis including law suit to make the “rebel governors ” rescind their decision, but all to no avail. The five governors accused Tukur being autocratic and didn’t respect the constitution of the party especially in the suspension of Governor Wammako.
The resignation of Tukur was to calm the fraying nerves in the party so as to bring everybody on board according to the Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh. The emergence of Muazu who is also from the North East as Tukur is to restore the confidence of the people of the zone in the party.
Muazu was nominated by Bauchi state Governor Isa Yiguda at the meeting held in Abuja Monday afternoon. Senator Ndoma Egba seconded his nomination.
