Abuja airport runway to be closed for rehabilitation

Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Wednesday announced plans to close the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for two days to carry out rehabilitation.

The runway according to a notice by the Coordinating General Manager of Aviation Parastatals, Yakubu Dati, will be closed to traffic from July 5 to 7 July, 2014.

The notice explained that the closure would be from 11pm on Saturday till 5am on Monday and has been circulated to all airlines, sister agencies of FAAN and other critical stakeholders.

According to Dati, the closure and rehabilitation is in line with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation and Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority approved safety and Standard and Recommended Practices.

He added that this will further elevate safety and security to greater heights at the airport.

“FAAN hereby apologizes for the inconvenience this temporary closure will cause air passengers and airline operators.” Dati stated.
