G7 PDP Governors join APC, As Gov Aliyu dissociates self from the merger
A faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, new PDP, and the seven aggrieved Governors who were elected on the platform of the party have merged with the All Progressives Congress, APC. This giant political step was announced today by the acting Chairman of the New PDP Abubakar Baraje.
The merger was announced after a meeting held at the Kano State Governors Lodge in Abuja on Tuesday.
The ruling PDP has been enmeshed in a crisis that eventually became irreconcilable . The Governors of , Kwara (Abdulfatah Ahmed), Sokoto (Aliyu
Wamakko), Adamawa (Murtala Nyako), Kano (Musa Kwankwaso), and Rivers (Rotimi
Amaechi) voted to join All Progressive Congress.
Sources said the Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, who is one of the G7 Governors was absent at the meeting.
Mr. Baraje who read the communique to journalists after the meeting however said Governor Lamido was part of the decision. With this merger, APC now has 18
governors while the ruling PDP has 16.
The Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu has however refuted the merger claim. This came few hours after Baraje’s announcement. The Chief Press secretary to Governor Aliyu, Danladi Ndayebo insisted that his boss remains a member of the
New PDP and no decision has been taken by his boss to join APC.
