46th Pride March Takes on Different Meaning Following Supreme Court Ruling
After Sunday’s rain, endless rainbows.
Thousands gathered to cheer on the 46th Annual Pride march as it made its way through Manhattan, report TWC News.
It was reported, activists, actors, and politicians took part in the famed march, featuring the usual colorful array of music, dancing and floats.
People at the march said it took on an extra significance this year after the Supreme Court’s decision Friday to legalize same-sex marraige in all 50 states.
“I mean, I thought it would happen, but I didn’t think it would happen for a long time, so I’m happy it happened on June 26, 2015,” said one paradegoer.
“I think it’s great. I think it’s wonderful. I think the Supreme Court decision is amazing, and I never thought I would see it in my lifetime,” said another.
“Well, maybe yes, but it’s just so exciting and it’s overwhelming that it came, sort of all of a sudden on Friday, so it was really fantastic,” said a third.
“We hoped it, we dreamt about it, but we just really didn’t think it would happen, and it did,” said a fourth.
“And we cried. We’re still crying,” said a fifth. “It’s amazing. It’s absolutely amazing.”
This year’s grand marshals include actors Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi, along with LGBT rights activists Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera and J. Christopher Neal.
