3 staff of CCC feared dead at project site in Asaba
Three staff of Constructed Contractors Company, CCC, were yesterday feared dead at the Inter Bau roundabout construction site in Asaba, the Delta state capital.
The incident occurred at about 11. 30 am, when the 3 victims were working at the company’s construction site, where they were digging a hole of concrete pillars for the fly-over project worth N3.5 billion awarded by the state government for free flow of traffic.
The sand almost buried the victims alive before their co-workers rushed to the scene of the incident and rescued them.
It was gathered that the victims were hurriedly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba by the men of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.
According to one of the workers, “the victims are in the state of coma as I am talking to you now, and nobody knows if they will survive the accident“.
The incident immediately sparked off protests among the workers and the management of the company as workers massively left the project site in order to show solidarity for what had happened to their colleagues.
The workers said a lot of things had been happening against the workers because of negligence on the part of the management of the company.
“Recently, two workers; the security man and one of the workers died and the management bluntly refused to attend their burial ceremonies.
Also sledge hammer fell on one of our colleagues and no treatment was provided for him, in fact, we are being treated with levity,” they said.
The workers said the management is always infringing on our rights because we don’t we have union to protect the interest of the workers.
When Journalists approached, Mr. Diran shortly after addressing the workers for comments, he refused speaking to newsmen but only said.“
I am only here to address my workers and not Journalists. I don’t have your time please; I am going back to the office.
