2027: Group bemoans campaign of calumny against Senator Adeola

…says senator not desperate to govern Ogun

A socio-political group, Ogun West Coalition for Good Governance (OWECOGG), has expressed dismay over what it described as a “sponsored write up” purposely commissioned to disparage the personality of the senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.

The group in a statement signed on Monday by its Coordinator, Abolaji Jelili, said the write up titled ‘Ogun 2027: Olamilekan, not the best foot to put forward as APC governorship candidate’ written by one Hakeem Adisa from Idi Iroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and published in an online news medium, was not only a “fallacy” of the highest order, but a deliberate yet a feeble attempt to smear Senator Adeola’s giant political strides ahead of the 2027 general elections.

OWECOGG noted that the contextual study of the write up clearly showed that the writer was only doing the bidding of his paymasters and politicians in Ogun West who are obviously threatened by the qualitative representation in terms of legislation, projects and empowerment the senator has offered the senatorial district since he assumed office.

The group in the statement, however, said that Senator Adeola is not desperate for the number one seat in the state and he is not blinded by any inordinate ambition, but working assiduously to facilitate the elusive infrastructural development to Ogun West.

According to Abolaji, the senator has always been at the vanguard of a better and greater Ogun West, which he has been pursuing before and after his emergence as the incumbent senator of the senatorial district in 2023.

While faulting the writer for accusing the senator for using his resources to cause division in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state because of his governorship ambition, the OWECOGG Coordinator described Adeola as a thorough-bred progressive who has brought more members of the opposition parties into the APC fold through his political and leadership style.

He added that since his foray into the Ogun State politics, the senator has not hidden his passion for the upliftment of Ogun West Senatorial District and its people, hence, his various empowerment programmes across Ogun West.

Abolaji, who declared that the group will continue to support Senator Adeola in his bid to turn around the fortune of Ogun West, urged the people not to be swayed by the antics of politicians who are jittery of his rising political profile in the state.

“As a socio-political group in Ogun West Senatorial District, we view with dismay, the write up purposely commissioned to disparage our working senator, who has facilitated unprecedented infrastructural projects across Ogun West. The write up is nothing, but handiwork of politicians who are jittery of the rising political profile of our dear senator.

“Since it is obvious that they can’t match his political sagacity and acceptance not only in Ogun West, but Ogun East and Central, these politicians who have lost their relevance since the advent of Yayi in the Ogun State politics, have decided to resort to political blackmail to smear Senator Adeola, who has changed the political narrative in Ogun West.

“From our group’s interaction with him, the senator has always reiterated his readiness to use his political clout to move Ogun West out of the woods. And since his emergence as our senator in 2023, he has made it clear that he was ready to complement the efforts of our state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in his bid to take Ogun a notch higher.

“Though, as a bonafide indigene of our dear state, Senator Adeola has the right to aspire to govern the state, but, we don’t see him as a desperate person or politician who is blinded by ambition. Rather, we see a man who is passionate about the development of his senatorial district and economic prosperity of his people.

“OWECOGG thereby urges our people not to be dissuaded by the fallacy. It is just an antic by failed politicians from our axis to mislead our people and cause rancour as usual ahead of the 2027 general elections”. The statement stated.
