The members of the State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Ogun West have condemned the alleged endorsement ‎of a politician from Ogun East for the 2019 governoship race. The members who held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday affirmed that such a pronouncement by few people from the zone has become an embarrassment to them. In a communiqué written at the end of their meeting and made available to nigerianecho.com, the group affirmed it’s support for the Adebayo Dayo led State Executive Committee of the party and warned people making such statement to desist from doing so.

Some members from Ogun West Senatorial District were reported in the media to have endorsed an aspirant from Remo, in Ogun East for Governor in the 2019 elections.

‎”We condemn the failed endorsement in its entirety and therefore state unequivocally that the authentic and progressive party leadership of the PDP in Ogun west (which statutorily hold the powers to endorse any aspirant if need be and at the appropriate time) HAS NOT and WILL NOT ENDORSE anybody for any position except as designed by the State Secretariat and in conformity with INEC rules.

“We hereby use this medium to reiterate that Ogun west politicians are responsible people and will not allow themselves to be used for the selfish and inordinate ambition of any politician. We are however glad that some of the endorsement proponents have tactically and privately been denying the failed endorsement. We encourage them to publicity denounce it since the endorsement was publicly done.

” Furthermore, we also warn members of the party from Ogun west that have also been seen attending clandestine meetings with an APC politician of Lagos state extraction and yet come to attend PDP meetings as leaders. They are advised to desist from such acts or be bold to identify with the other parties. It is shameful that while efforts are being made to energise the party some people are busy chasing other motives not consistent with the growth of our party. This duplicity and anti-party will soon be exposed and commensurate disciplinary action taken against those identified.”, the group noted.

RESOLUTION OF OGUN WEST PDP STATE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PARTY IN THE ZONE AND THE 2019 GOVERNORSHIP RACE

Members of the State Executive Committee from Ogun west senatorial district rose from an extraordinary meeting held on Tuesday 25th October, 2016 to deliberate on the development of the party in ogun west and issues surrounding the 2019 governorship race; among other matters. After exhaustive deliberations, the meeting resolved as follows:

(1). That members of the state executive from Ogun west are in full support of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo- led executive, especially in its renewed drive and policy direction aimed at rejuvenating the party and positioning it to reclaim governance in Ogun state come 2019.

(2). That the senatorial executive and patriotic leaders of the party in Ogun west will work assiduously for the party’s progress by embarking on concerted membership mobilization drive and implementation of the policy objectives reached at the state executive meeting and stakeholders meeting held in recent weeks.

(3). Sequel to the above, all the local government and ward executives within the district are to adhere strictly to the new regime that places emphasis on measurable performance both in the stipulated meeting times, funds utilisation and growth in numbers.

(4). That Ogun PDP under the current leadership have repeatedly stated that the party is open and big enough to contain the aspiration of any member and at the right time, every aspirant into any public office, including that of the governor, will be provided free opportunity to emerge a candidate through transparent and credible primaries.

(5). Whereas, Ogun west has yet to produce a governor for the state, and as desirable as it is, it must be done within what is permissible under the constitution of our party and the federal constitution. At the appropriate time, the party will come up with modalities and processes according to INEC guidelines and time table for 2019 elections which is expected to come out sometime in 2018. Consequently, it is premature for any person or group of people under the banner of PDP to openly canvass the ambition of anybody at this material time.

(6). Arising from point 5 above, we the State Executive members from Ogun west, find it ridiculous and preposterous, the purported governorship endorsement of a Remo politician by some politicians of Ogun west extraction – ostensibly on the platform of PDP; and which was notably reported in the media. The unfortunate action of the leaders concerned in the endorsement gambit could have been waived aside as the usual extortion strategy to further hoodwink and milk the particular gubernatorial hopeful, but they have by their indiscretion embarrassed the senatorial district and made the PDP a laughing stock.

(7). We condemn the failed endorsement in its entirety and therefore state unequivocally that the authentic and progressive party leadership of the PDP in Ogun west (which statutorily hold the powers to endorse any aspirant if need be and at the appropriate time) HAS NOT and WILL NOT ENDORSE anybody for any position except as designed by the State Secretariat and in conformity with INEC rules.

(8). We hereby use this medium to reiterate that Ogun west politicians are responsible people and will not allow themselves to be used for the selfish and inordinate ambition of any politician. We are however glad that some of the endorsement proponents have tactically and privately been denying the failed endorsement. We encourage them to publicity denounce it since the endorsement was publicly done.

(9). Furthermore, we also warn members of the party from Ogun west that have also been seen attending clandestine meetings with an APC politician of Lagos state extraction and yet come to attend PDP meetings as leaders. They are advised to desist from such acts or be bold to identify with the other parties. It is shameful that while efforts are being made to energise the party some people are busy chasing other motives not consistent with the growth of our party. This duplicity and anti-party will soon be exposed and commensurate disciplinary action taken against those identified.

(10). Finally, we commend Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu for his liberal mindedness, continuous democratization of the party, empowerment of party faithfuls and support for party executives across board. We praise his courage and renewed effort at encouraging collective participation and administration of the party. We also salute the maturity and the forthrightness of our symbol, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Hon. Iziaq Biodun Akinlade and Alhaji Wole Adeyaniu for their commitment to the party and Ogun west interest especially.
