2014 Lagos State Sports Festival to Hold From April 30 to May 10
The 2014 edition of Lagos State Sports Festival will take place between April 30 to May 10.
The championship, known as IBILE Games, will feature two categories this year: Open Category for Local Government Areas (LGAs), and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and Junior/School Category for Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in the public, private, federal and military schools.
In the Open Category, there will be 17 sporting codes to select from and these include individual sports like Darts, Athletics/Para and Deaf Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming and Weightlifting/Powerlifting. There will also be combat sports like Boxing, Judo, Karate, Wrestling, Kung-Fu and Taekwondo.
As for racket sports, table tennis/para and deaf table tennis will be on display while team sports like basketball, football and cricket should also feature prominently. There will also be provision for traditional sports (Ayo and Kokowa).
In the junior category, chess, athletics/deaf athletics, scrabble, swimming and weightlifting is on the schedule while combat sports boxing, judo, karate, wrestling and taekwondo set to be part of the junior games as well.
According to a statement from Technical Committee headed by Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, the events will take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Sports Bar of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, among others venues in Lagos.
Knock-up Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Cricket Oval of the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, Lagos Island and the University of Lagos Sports Centre, Akoka, Lagos are also on the venue list.
