1Bn Naira LG Deductions: NULGE Cannot Blackmail Me Says Fayemi
The Governor of Ekiti State Dr. Kayode Fayemi has accused the leadership of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) of blackmails saying no amount of lies peddled against him will stop him from sacking redundant workers in the Local Government.
Speaking with NigerianEcho, Dr. Fayemi said, “Ekiti is certainly one State that gives money to LGAs rather than take money from them. Ask NULGE for their proof- independent, verifiable facts. NULGE thinks they can blackmail me into not sacking redundant workers. They are making a mistake. Ekiti should not be a haven for idle, lazy worker.”
The Governor who has also given NULGE one week ultimatum to retract the allegation that he is deducting N1bn every month illegally from the allocation to the councils says he would be forced to seek redress in court.
According to a statement by Ekiti State Government, the allegation is untrue and that if the statement was not retracted, the leadership of NULGE would hear from the legal team of the Governor. “Giving the injury that this baseless and wicked lies have done to the person of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the leadership of NULGE, Ekiti State chapter, is therefore given seven days to withdraw the allegation or be prepared to hear from the Governor’s lawyers.” The statement concluded.
The leadership of NULGE in a release in one of the national dailies had accused the Governor of deducting N1bn from the local government accounts hereby making it difficult for the councils to perform their functions.
