Senate to screen Amaechi, others Wednesday …..Screened two nominees

Chairman of Nigeria Senate Committee on Information, Senator Dino Melaye on Tuesday disclosed that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi has been scheduled to appear for screening tomorrow (Wedenesday) at the Senate.
Melaye disclosed this in a live chat with Channels TV at the Senate premises in Abuja.
According to the Senator, the report on Amaechi by the Senate committee on ethics will be submitted on Wednesday.
He also expressed optimism that Amaechi’s screening which is expected to follow the submission of the report will be smooth sailing.
Melaye added that All Progressive Congress, APC governors have met and expressed support for Amaechi.
He also said the APC caucus has been working to reach out to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP caucus which is also expected to meet today.
He said some lobbying of PDP and horse trading have been going on so that there will be a smooth screening for Amaechi.
Melaye also said due to public outcry over alleged lack of thorough screening of the first set ministerial nominees, the senate has decided to henceforth screen only three nominees per day.
Earlier , the order paper for the day’s proceedings was changed, reports said.
The Senate however screened two ministerial nominees on Tuesday.
Those screened were Barrister Adebayo Shittu from Oyo state and Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim who was asked to take a bow and go after her introductory remarks.
After screening the two nominees, the senate adjourned plenary till Wednesday at 10.00.
