Ajimobi lauds contribution ofjournalists to development
The Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has described journalists as essential agents in the development of democracy and good governance. He stated this at the weekend at his investiture as the Grand Patron of League of Veteran Journalists which took place at the state executive council chambers. According to the governor, journalists had continued to play positive roles in many aspects of development, not only in impacting knowledge and information, but also in encouraging the people to participate in politics. Governor Ajimobi, who attributed the various achievements recorded by his administration to the support of journalists and the league of veteran journalists in the state, added that his transformation agenda had been very successful through the tremendous cooperation and support of journalists. The state chief executive, while thanking the veteran journalists for the honour, described the gesture as a priceless priviledge. “It is a priceless priviledge for me to be invested with the award of the Grand Patronand to be the first governor to be honoured by men of honour who had been constantly engaged in the constructive criticism of what we are doing in government.For me, it is a honour that I will continue to cherish for the rest of my life” he said. Governor Ajimobi assured the people of the state that his administration would not relent in the provision of social infrastructure which he said had been upgraded to 85% by his administration, including provision of potable water, quality education and healthcare delivery. Thegovernor, at the occasion, also said that his administration had concluded arrangementfor the establishment of three model schools in the state, adding thatintake of students into the college would commence in September this year. Inhis remarks, the State Chairman of the league, Alhaji Kola Animashaun,said the investiture of the governor as grand patron of the league wasinformed by the laudable achievements which the transformation agenda of hisadministration had brought to the lives at the entire people of the state. “Weare here to celebrate a man of the moment for his various laudable achievementsand to express appreciation for the supportof his administration to theleague. I wish to declare that the league had never had it so good. This is the firsttime in the history of the league that we will be officially investing a governor asgrand patron. We applaud and extol achievements of Governor Abiola Ajimobibecause they have successfully stood the test of time in transition from aspirationto realities”. Hesaid the transportation system of the Ajimobi administration had made lifeeasier for commuters, stating that people can now give a time rate to move fromone part of the city to another as traffic congestion had become a thing of the past.
